So, what is Short Mat Bowls?
In a nutshell it is a fun skilful game played on a mat which is 45 feet long 6 feet wide. It is a game which can sometimes be very frustrating as a white block of wood is placed half way up the mat. The objective is to bowl your woods around the block in order to get as close as possible to a small yellow ball called a jack which has been placed on the mat at the other end. More importantly it is a competitive, but always friendly and suitable for everyone and can be highly addictive. It is a gentle form of exercise which can be played by anyone from 8 to 100.
Short Mat Bowls is often played in village halls or school gyms over the winter period as it does not require a lot of space or equipment.
