Saturday friendly at Byfield

Well done to all the players who played on Saturday in sunny Byfield.

It was a closely contested match with each team winning on two rinks. Congratulations to Byfield, who won by a slightly bigger margin on their two.

Hopefully we’ll get our own back next time.

Friendly against West End

Thank you to all those who supported Thursday’s friendly against West End. We had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with perfect bowling conditions.  The post-match discussions took place while we relaxed with hot dogs and drinks.

Looking forward to our return match.

Friday night bowling

Once again, we had a fantastic turn out for an afternoon of bowling. Six matches for the club completions took place alongside the usual roll-ups. Thank you to all those who stayed on in the dropping temperatures to watch the match that went to a deciding end.

Congratulations to Andy H, who won this week’s meat raffle.

Looking forward to another good turnout this week.

Books for sale in clubhouse

We have donated some books to the Bowling Club which are for sale.  All money raised to go to club funds.

If anyone has any books they no longer require and are willing to donate them to the club please feel free to add them to the bookshelf in the clubhouse.

Friday Social

Thanks, once again, to all those who supported our club on this wet Friday night, both virtually and physically.  There was a fantastic response from our members to join in the short mat and chat with friends.

The meat raffle was won by Mike and Thelma, with Mike managing to pull his own ticket out!!! Congratulations to them and thanks to John for supplying the meat.

Looking forward to seeing everyone next week.

Executive triples

John H, Alan G and Janet M played the match against Hilary, Sharon and Pete, from Kingsthorpe, on a very hot Sunday morning.

It was a closely contested match, all the way through, with the score after 14 ends being 14 each.  Unfortunately we didn’t quite manage to pip them at the post, with a final result of 16-19 in favour of the visitors.

An enjoyable, sporting match. Thank you to everyone involved.

Friday night social

Once again, we had a fantastic turnout for our social night. There was some relaxed bowling alongside the three club competition matches.

The meat raffle this week was won by Geoff and Lin, congratulations to them and thanks, once again, to John Thorne for providing us with such a great selection.

The pizza was a big hit, I’ll have to make more next time. 🍕

Big Bowls Weekend

On Saturday 29th May we held a very successful Open Day as part of the Bowls England & Disability Bowls England initiative to get everyone back playing bowls and welcoming members of the community to our sport. Blessed with a glorious sunny day some 50 to 60 people made up of members, their family & friends plus several new faces joined in this relaxed fun day.

Having worked with the BDA in developing and meeting various criteria over a two year period we actually achieved the required standards and gained the Bowls Disability Mark in February 2020. Unfortunately owing to Covid restrictions it was not possible to arrange a formal presentation until now. This was put right during the day when Annie Dunham one of the BDA’s Club Development Officers travelled from Lincolnshire to present the Awards to Michael Robins our Club President. A big thank you to Annie for taking time out to join us. Also another big thank you to the group of members who played a huge part in helping us gain this award.

Events such as this do not take place or are successful without the work undertaken by members who made sure the day went with a bang. Yes the balloon displays kept popping in the heat and added to the fun. A big thank you to all the volunteers for making sure everyone enjoyed themselves. The bacon butties followed by a barbecue later in the day plus cold refreshments served to the tables ensured everyone was suitably catered for throughout.

There has never been a better time to become more active and take up a sport. Bowls is a sport that can be played by people of all ages, gender or physical ability. Our club having achieved the very high standards required to gain this award, are looking to build on work already undertaken. We invite newcomers to bowls to come along and join in our social bowling sessions details of which can be found on our website of Social Media pages.

Daventry Tigers v Daventry Town

Saturday 5 May.

We spent a very enjoyable, and hot,  afternoon at the Tigers green, with 4 rinks bowling.  Daventry town managed to come from behind and win on one rink, unfortunately the rest of us were not so successful. Congratulations to Marion, Gill, Mike and Phillip.

Thank you to the home team for making us feel so welcome and inviting us to join in with the birthday celebrations.

Friday night social and meat raffle

Many thanks to all those members who came along to support the club on this beautiful warm evening.  Watching the sun set over the Sunset Bar was relaxing and wonderful.

Congratulations to Dave B, the winner of this week’s meat raffle – top quality chicken breasts, sirloin steak, gammon steak and sausages – provided by the Thorne and son’s butchers (every Tuesday and Friday Daventry market).
